What causes green flies?

Life cycle

Getting Rid of Green Bottle Flies
Strict sanitation measures in your home are suggested to control bottle flies and to prevent an infestation. Sewer pipes should be inspected for breaks. Animal feces should be removed. Garbage storage areas should be carefully cleaned and garbage cans should equipped with tight lids.

How do flies see humans?

One gas which attracts female green and blue bottle flies is methane. Methane is given off by decaying animals and is also the same gas used as a fuel source for natural gas furnaces, stoves and water heaters.
On average the life cycle of flies and blue bottles is about 6 weeks. However, in hot conditions the time taken for eggs of the fly to become maggots and then a fly could be as little as 7 days.
